This was the first time taking my car to Scotts. My car had a light that was low and I didnt know which one and would be travelling over Christmas. Such wonderful service. Got my car in the same week I called and provided a shuttle service to work and back. The gentleman that drove me to work and woman that drove me home were so nice and I enjoyed talking with them both. This will be where I bring all our vehicles.

After a series of jobs, Scott's is the best organized car repair shop. Had state inspection done, then scheduled maintenance. Dropped car off the night before, inspection was done by 9am the next day, was noon for the next visit for scheduled maintenance. Received text letting me know it was done, and another with a link to the most detailed state inspection report I have seen, including pictures. Now my new go-to repair shop. Folks who work there are fabulous.

Due to snow, I brought my truck in late and still got it back the same day. When I brought it in, Rick went patiently through the various recommended maintenance and worked with my budget to determine what was most critical. When I picked up my truck the bill was LOWER than anticipated bc they gave me several discounts for being a return customer. I have NEVER taken a vehicle to a shop and had a lower bill than expected. Awesome customer service and support.

I had a Virginia inspection and oil change today on my first visit. From start to finish they were totally professional and welcoming. Rarely does one encounter such kindness and civility especially in the automotive universe. I highly recommend these great folks and plan to use them from now on for my vehicles. I love this place. They are awesome. I take my car there any time something needs to be done. I trust them with my car. Not only do they call me by name but they have driven me home when I needed a ride. Service like this is rare any more but Scott's Ivy Exxon gives you personal service that you won't find any where else. I cannot say enough good things about Scott’s Ivy Exxon. The service is absolutely amazing. They go above and beyond the call of duty. I know I have said the same thing when I review this period Scott is amazing. It’s like having a service station that we grew up with. Where everybody knows your name and your father name and your siblings name and it’s just a it’s a blessing. It is a great place.

We used Scott's for our daughters inspection. They were quick, honest, professional and knowledgeable. They explained she needed new tires. They offer a shuttle to bring you home. The person I spoke with seemed nice. That's the only good thing I could say. This place is way too expensive. $130 light bulb and $44 for one wiper, I can do it myself. I was told they only service the rich (doctors and lawyers). One person said do I know where I am did you see the house down the road? They are expensive. Basically telling my I am too poor to go there. So thank you for telling me I am not in your class.

I’ve found my place! AND, I will refer my friends and family to them! Easy to set appointments, confirmed by email and texts. A++Shuttle service with a phone call to let me know that they were on their way. Very kind retiree picked me up and dropped me off. I learned he’s been with Scott’s Ivy Exxon since 2012 and he spoke highly of the employees and the work that they do. I went in for an inspection and I received email with pictures of work being done, followed by a phone call to discuss the repairs. I did not feel pressured to make any immediate repairs, but was advised to keep an eye on tires prior to winter. They provided quotes for new tires when I requested it. The mechanics were in full swing when I arrived at 7 am to drop off my car! Very professional and kind from the minute I pulled into the parking lot. Even topped off all fluids! I try to give my business to family owned companies and also believe in “keeping it local”! It’s refreshing to find a place that you trust.

After an inspection showed my brake pads were worn on a 2 yr old car, I had the work done by the dealer instead of Scott’s . When I told them I would be doing that , he said the $900 estimate was for pads that would not rust. However , he didn’t have any of those pads But that was what the estimate was for. Whatever… the dealer was 1/3 the cost of Scott’s estimate, and then although Scott’s told me several times that brake pads were not covered by warranty, Flow Kia replaced at no charge. This is not the first time Scott’s has quoted a price that was not in the ballpark of other mechanics. An air conditioner was repaired for $200, (and continued to work till we sold the Expedition 4 yrs later) which Scott’s quoted S2,000 to fix. Get other estimates .

Thank you for your review. When we looked at your car, we found that the brake rotors were rusty and preventing the brake pads from making complete contact with the brake rotors. I am happy to hear that Kia warrantied those rotors for you. I have never seen a dealership do that before, so that's great news. One reason our estimate was higher is because we did not know if the rotors only could be replaced or if the pads would also need to be replaced. I would much rather estimate high and reduce the bill instead of estimating low and asking for more money half way through the job. As for the air conditioner from before, same thing. I always try to estimate the worst case scenario so that you are prepared. Thank you again for your review. We will attempt to be a little more clear with pricing and why we charge what we do.

We had a lot of deferred maintenance on our car. Cole did a great job in communicating what was needed vs. optional and communicated throughout the process. Our go-to place now. Had a condensate drain clog. I called at 11am, dropped off at 1:30pm, picked up fixed car 3:30pm. Awesome.

I recently experienced a big problem with loss of brake power in my 2021 vehicle. Scott’s Ivy made my vehicle a top priority to work on. Their technicians efficiently diagnosed and repaired what needed to be done. They twice test drove it to make sure everything was operating to specifications before I drove it. They are very friendly and do highly professional work.

We were stranded on the side of the interstate after having a road reflector get lodged between our caliper and rim, busting one of the two mounting bolts off. I called Scott's and they were able to get the bolts from their distributor and delivered it to us! These guys were an extreme blessing and help to get us back on the road as soon as possible! By far the best experience I’ve ever had with an auto-shop. The servicemen were extremely helpful, the shuttle was extremely quick and reliable and its driver is a great man. The vehicle report was so comprehensive, i felt like a driver coming back to the pits after a qualifying lap going over data with engineers.

Unless service or an experience is absolutely way off base I usually hold off leaving reviews. People can have great days or bad days. However if it’s always bad or always good that’s when you know how things really run. I’ll say having made three unrelated visits to the shop in the past 2 weeks has been on each occasion easy, accommodating and very smooth. Kohl, Rick, Ed and the group make you feel like you are welcomed and respected. Communication is excellent. Timeliness is committed to and clear and honest explanations of services are provided. 3 for 3 so far! Most folks assume a shop is going to take advantage of them. More folks know as much about their automobiles as they do their internal organs. These guys are straight forward and share the info, leave it up to you and keep it simple. Like your physician, you can trust these folks. If you want honestly, fairness and timeliness then by all means check Scott’s out. Great service. Greater people.

I called Scott’s Exxon having been there before for different repairs and they said to just stop by and they’d squeeze me in. Extremely kind! I will never go here again. Took my knock around Tesla in for an inspection and was told about two issues that caused the inspection to fail. One of the issues I was told over the phone would cost $3,000 to fix. I have since contacted another mechanic who can not only fix the “$3k” issue but the second issue as well, all for materially less than the $3k Scott’s quoted to fix one of the two issues. $20 inspections do not generate profit, but they generate a pipeline to lucrative, overpriced repair jobs. My concern is for others who run into similar issues and fail to shop around. In my case, I was able to find someone else who could remedy the inspection flaws at a reasonable cost whereby I didn’t feel as though I was getting ripped off. I’m sure the response here will be “we use superior parts” or “back up our service with a warranty,” or whatever, something along those lines, similar to other responses to customers who have encountered similar issues with this establishment. In looking at other one star review ratings, my experience does not appear to be an isolated incident. UPDATE - I don't care that this establishment posted my inspection report for public view, but that seems very unprofessional. I'm not arguing whether or not the component needs replacing, although it will be interesting to see what the other mechanic states, so it shouldn't be necessary to display the report for public consumption to make that determination as to whether or not the control arms are defective. My post didn't deal with whether or not the control arms were defective, but instead highlighted the egregious cost to repair the control arms. If you google or ask Chat GPT "how much does it cost to replace rear control arms in 2021 tesla model y?" the response, even when having it done at a Tesla service center, is MATERIALLY lower. I found someone materially less than $3k to do the control arms AND the light and am satisfied with the price (around 25% of the Scott's Ivy Exxon quote). This goes back to my original point - the inspection doesn't produce profit but does create a pipeline for overpriced repairs. If you get a failed inspection at this establishment, I'd highly recommend shopping around. It took me ten minutes to find a much more reasonable alternative.

The link to your vehicle courtesy check is here: https://shorturl.at/o44RY Your car failed inspection for a couple of different items. The first item was a bit of an unknown. The fog light assembly on the right side had been damaged and was flopping around in the housing. This fails inspection because the light is not secure. For pricing purposes, we were not sure what would be involved in securing this light without further inspection, so we did not provide an estimate for this repair. The other issue for inspection was the upper control arms in the rear. These were so loose; we were able to move them by hand. This is certainly a safety issue and not something that is subjective. The parts were Tesla dealer parts and not aftermarket parts. Our technicians have received Tesla training and according to Tesla service, the estimate included everything needed for that repair. It is possible that not all the estimated parts would be used if the existing parts (nuts, bolts, bushings) are still in good shape. Our process is to always price the worst-case scenario so that there are no surprises in the end. We ALWAYS provide an estimate for this reason, and we never indicate that you are required to have us perform the services. Our goal is to provide you with all the information necessary to make the best decision for you and your car and we do this with the courtesy check (link above). If you have any other questions or concerns, please contact me directly. To clarify, the control arm bushing had failed and caused excessive control arm movement. The bushing is only available as part of the knuckle assembly. Chat GPT states $1675 each for this repair. If your technician only replaced the control arms and not the bushings, you may still have a problem. If we had done this repair and found that replacing the control arms only fixed the problem, we would have been much cheaper than the estimate provided. Again, we want to always provide the worst-case scenario for estimates.

We've been taking our vehicles here for a few years, can't recommend them enough. First class customer service, family atmosphere, and honest! There have been a number of times they could've charged us more or lie about doing work we asked for.....they always call and inform us that the work isn't required etc... Scott and Jason are fabulous to deal with but, so are the other staff they have, a true family. They have a loyalty program that saves you money from work done and VA inspections. Great folks!

Scott's Ivy Exxon has always been great – but I'm writing today because their extra generosity & expertise also saved me today from a likely tire blowout! I was dangerously over-inflating my tires by 15 to 20 PSI due to my faulty bicycle-tire-pump-gauge (which I was using to check each tire's pressure/PSI while using their air pump which they let me use for free). Fortunate for me that a mechanic saw me with my clunky pump-gauge and (just to be friendly!) offered me his easier-to-use tire gauge. That's the only way I found out! And then when I saw the big difference in measured PSI, he helped me get all the tires safe. I'm really thankful. I plan to always go there for my future car work, inspections, oil changes, and gas! P.S. Not only is Scott's Exxon generous and helpful, I've gotten car work done there and they've always been highly-expert, great explainers, and friendly.

I would like to point out that the items for which your car was rejected were documented with photos and videos in your vehicle courtesy check. You had repairs made to the car at another shop, which is perfectly fine, but when you returned for the re-inspection, the repairs were insufficient. The brake repair did not address the caliper sticking causing the wheel to not spin freely and the headlight lenses were still dull/cloudy. I understand that you do not agree with the inspection rules that we have to adhere to, but that does not mean that we can skirt the rules set by the state. As I mentioned on your last visit, you are more than welcome to have the state police come by and inspect the vehicle and provide clarification on any of the repairs in questions. Have always had a great experience here! I recently had a leak in my tire and was able to drop by and have someone look at it to determine if it could be patched. It couldn't & they were able to get me new tires within a day and able to squeeze me in to their busy Friday schedule to get them on before the weekend. They even called to let me know I didn't technically need all 4 tires changed since 2 were still in pretty good condition. They also send an email & text with an assessment of my car that shows the condition of fluids, oil, fan, etc which helps me plan ahead for future maintenance. I really appreciate how communicative they are and how they seem to have my best interest in mind when working on my car. Solid 5 stars for Scotts Ivy Exxon!

Our car had issues with the braking system and needed a much awaited maintenance check after more than a year. The folks here are very warm, cheerful and accommodating. We had to leave the car overnight so they lent us their loaner vehicle. They also have free shuttle to drive you back and forth as long as you're around C'ville and Crozet area. Rick, Scott, Ed and Will you guys rock! The problem got fixed in a timely manner and they were very transparent with everything. We will surely come back. Definitely a positive experience.

My experience with Scott's was very mixed. Their hourly labor costs are quite high...I hadn't realized that they are actually much higher than my BMW dealer labor costs. I had brought the car there because I never expected a local garage to have higher per hour labor costs than the dealer! And I felt that they were encouraging me to do work on the car that is unnecessary. Everyone was quite pleasant and professional - I had brought my car in for inspection. However, I was not happy with how a specific issue was handled. They apparently outsource the alignment of cars (needed after a repair they'd done). They drove my car to and from the alignment shop. When they got back they 'noticed' a nail in one of my run-flat tires. I am 95% sure that there was no nail in that tire prior to their having my car. And I'd have thought that during Inspection of the tires, and/or when they removed and remounted the tires (needed for an unrelated breaks repair as part of inspection) that they too would have noticed if there was a nail in the tire. The Exxon rep acknowledged that the nail may well may have gotten into tire while they had my car. Of course there's no way to know for sure...on that we agree. But logic would say that it very likely happened when they drove the car, considering that they had been handing the tires repeatedly before that. Anyway, Scott's took no responsibility whatsoever for the nail and expected me to pay full price and labor for replacing the tire. That strikes me as terrible customer service, considering that this was obviously a nebulous situation as part of the same visit where I'd already spend over $3,000. Needless to say, I took the car to BMW to replace the tire, which they did for $125 LESS than Scott's was quoting. All and all - polite, knowledgeable, and competent. But way too expensive and not reasonable (in my opinion) in rectifying issues which give the customer a bad feeling about whether or not they are being taken advantage of.

I am glad that we were able to perform the repairs you authorized below the estimate that we gave you and that we were also able to provide you with a loaner car during the repair. I also want to remind you of our 3 year 36000 mile nationwide warranty in case you have any issues with our repairs in the future. Regarding the tire, I do agree that you should not have been responsible for the cost of the tire replacement, so we will happily re-pay you for that repair. We strive to be the best, but sometimes, we fall short. Our intension is to always do what we can to make it right. I hope that we have done that. Needed ethanol-free gas and found it here. Although it took a minute to find it because it's in the back side of the parking lot. However, when I went in to ask the cashier if they had ethanol free gas, she was very friendly and helpful. The place was very clean and with the positive attitudes from the staff and the condition of the place, I felt very well welcomed. I just wish their parking lot layout was a little less confusing.

I unfortunately have to give a low review due to the multiple excuses I was given when I took it in for a safety inspection. At first, I was told brake pads had to be replaced and possibly the rotors, but they couldn't tell unless they took it apart, and they were going to charge an outrageous fee just to check. That didn't sound right to me so I had a certified Jeep mechanic take a look and showed them all the pics this place took and what they said regarding the inspection. That mechanic was confused because he took apart everything (I sat and watched), changed the pads even though they didn't need changing, but he assured me my rotors were fine so he didn't change them, which saved me extra money. I took it back here within the 15 days and less than an hour of dropping it off, they called and said they still couldn't pass because of the rotors - something they originally told me they'd charge to check. Though they had professional manners, I knew they were giving me a runaround, which is common with mechanics when a single female goes in for maintenance. After consulting with multiple people, I took it elsewhere for my safety inspection and was given my sticker with no problem. When I told the other mechanic in town what this place said about my rotors, they too assured me that my rotors were fine. I originally chose this place because of the reviews but I will not be coming back here again.

The invoice you received stated “Inspection results: Fail. The front brake rotors have rust preventing the pads from making full contact”. This line indicates that the rotors are the failing item, not the pads. We did inform you that the brake pads may also fail and this would be determined once the brake pads were removed and we were able to see if they were damaged by the rust on the brake rotors. Because you had two mechanics tell you the brake rotors passed inspection, I wanted to ensure that what we told you about your brake rotors was correct. I sent the information to the Virginia State Trooper over inspections in this area. His response was that the rotors do indeed fail inspection based on the pictures that I sent him (the same pictures that is in your vehicle inspection report that we emailed to you: https://tvpx.autovitals.com/InspectionResults?jobs=true&forcustomer=true&datax=false&sid=4476&inspectionResultId=1713798927&mode=manage&digest=yS+tjqoECl852VX76JamBA). The Virginia State Inspection rules are as follows: “inspect for and reject if any lining or pad is misaligned or does not make full contact with the drum or rotor”. Accuracy on State Inspections is very important to us because your safety and the safety of those around you on the road is our top priority. I cannot speak to why other shops say the rotors are ok when the State Trooper says they fail. All I can say is that we abide by the laws of Virginia Inspection, and we will continue to put the safety of our customers first. Nothing is worse than getting ready to leave for work when you find you have a flat tire - you know what I mean right? Well, I called Scott's Ivy Exxon and they told me, since I do live relatively close by, that if I could put some air in the tire so as not to run it off the rim, I could drive it in immediately and they'd take a look at it. Well, fortunately I have a Craftsman battery power tire pump/inflater and I could fill the tire with air and drive it in. Scott's team was able to look right away at the tire, find the leak, and repaired it - all at a very reasonable cost and I could get on my way to work. We are so very fortunate to have Scott's Ivy Exxon in Ivy. They are the best and I highly recommend them for all your car & tire needs.

Pro- They can usually get you in sooner than some other places. They have a shuttle. Con- They charge $220 an hour for labor. That is about $100 more an hour than the four other places I called. While I am sure they have their reasons for charging that for labor, it is definitely something that made the repair price for my car above what I could afford. Their prices on the parts I needed were much higher as well. I would highly recommend asking anyplace you go for their hourly rate. Then you can compare it to other shops.

This is a nationwide warranty, so no matter where you are, you are covered at a Napa facility. In addition to warranty, we offer extensive training and benefits to our employees to keep them well educated on the constant advances in the automotive repair industry. Good and reliable help is hard to come by these days, so keeping and training the employees you have is very important. We value you, your business, and your opinion. We know we will never be the least expensive option, but we will always strive to be your most dependable, honest, and transparent option. Honest, transparent, friendly! A very large, notable Charlottesville dealership told me I needed several things replaced in my car. The team at Scott’s evaluated my car and then showed me how those things were in great shape and didn’t require repair. They share a great online report that explains all the service checks, complete with pictures of your actual car parts and explainer videos. Grateful to have them as a business.

We appreciate your feedback, David. We know that we can be higher than some shops and that is because we use the highest quality parts and provide a 3-year 36,000-mile warranty on parts and labor. In turn, we will always provide a detailed estimate before the work is done so that you have the right to choose if you would like for us to do the repair. You agreed for us to change your spark plugs, air filter and cabin filter. We have found that prices all over have increased and we are not immune. Parts pricing alone has skyrocketed. We have to balance meeting with demand and offering a fair price (for the customer and for us to stay in business). If a need ever arises, we will be here to help in any way we can.

Scott's exxon is not the place to go for an oil change. Did they do the job correctly? Yes, they did. Was it a good value? Absolutely not! I was charged well over $200 dollars for an oil change and tire patch. How can this be? Then, they never called to let me know the car was finished, I had to call them. I almost fell down when I saw the bill. I was saved by the $50 off coupon I got from them for Christmas but still $180+ for a patch and oil change feels a bit pricey. Do yourself a favor and hit Valvoline or jiffy lube if you are looking for value

My inspection was rejected due to brake pads and rotors. The front estimate was 964.49. The rear estimate was 943.29. They recommend I replace the front brake pads and rotors, but in order to pass inspection, I needed to replace my rear brake pads and rotors. Later that day, I received a second estimate from a different shop. The estimate for the front and rear brake pads and rotors was 880.98. I am not sure if my gender or race had anything to do with the estimate. I am not sure if this is an isolated incident. I was only able to pass inspection at the second shop if I replaced the front and back… Scott’s Ivy Exxon put my life at risk. I am in the process of filing. I have a witness. Below are attached photos of the estimates. Update: I received a phone call the day after posting my review. Over the phone, the owner admitted to what he is now calling an oversight. An oversight that he did not catch until I wrote a review. In his response to my review, he uses his wife to invoke empathy/understanding. I assume he is doing this in the hopes to counter balance my review. On February 24th, he spoke with me before I received and read the documents. During our conversation today (25th), he stated that he takes the liberty to mark up the price for parts. I asked him to send me a document of his markup price for rotors and pads, he refused. He said, “I would use that information against him.” Please notice, in his response to my review he did not list the high quality brand he uses instead he attempts to belittle another mechanic/shop. I got my front and back rotors and pads replaced for 880.98 at Cville Imports. I was told by the staff that the price Scott’s Ivy Exxon tried to charge me was “robbery”. The worse thing about this situation is that the owner was the one trying to take advantage of me. Look at the manipulation of his words, “From our experience, what is best for the car and the customer is not always the least expensive option.” I had the resources to pay for the front and back rotors/pads. We were in the process of ordering the part and my car being fixed that afternoon. What halted the transaction was my friend stepping in. He thought I was being overcharged.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. I would like to clear a couple of things up from your visit that I maybe did not stress enough. Hyundai makes a great product and, as I told you when you were in, my wife drives a Hyundai. We have found, in our 30 years of working on cars, that Hyundai sometimes has fitment issues with aftermarket parts. This is one of the reasons that we priced your repair with premium parts. I reviewed the invoice for the repair that you pictured and can see that the parts provided to you on this repair are economy parts. Economy parts can lead to incorrect fitment, noisy brakes, premature wear, increased stopping distance and therefore cost more in the long run if you have to replace the parts again due to any of those issues. The brake rotors that we estimated were also premium, coated rotors that help to prevent rust buildup. Rust buildup on the rear brake rotors are what caused you to fail inspection in the first place. Your front brake pads were within specification to pass inspection, but I informed you that there may be an issue due to the uneven wear. I did, however, neglect to tell you that the front brake rotors failed inspection due to rust, but that information was clearly stated on the Vehicle Inspection Report that I sent to you. I do apologize for that oversight on my behalf, but our system of checks and balances would have led my technician to correct me before starting any work on your car. The official inspection report you were provided also notes that the front and rear brakes fail. Our top priorities are to do what is best for the car and best for the customer. From our experience, what is best for the car and the customer is not always the least expensive option. In your case, we feel like the best thing for your car was a premium product that is backed by a 3-year/36,000-mile nationwide warranty and designed to give you the best stopping capability while also providing you with rust protection. We know that you travel back and forth from Richmond and having a reliable car is essential for you to make it to school. I am available to discuss this in more detail if you would like.

Due to needing my car that afternoon and also the price of the replacement, I couldn't do it that day. Jason was very kind and didn't push it on me to get it done then and there. The battery in your car is located under the spare tire in the trunk and the computer has to be programmed to the new battery (2/3 of the labor cost).

The personnel at this business are knowledgeable, very pleasant as well as highly skilled. They have given me excellent service at reasonable rates and warned me of incipient problems with my vehicle. I highly recommend them. Scott's had serviced my previous car when I moved here from Pittsburgh and discovered serious undercarriage rust that compromised the safety of my vehicle. It was recommended I replace that car within the next year. Inspection the previous year by a different company in Virginia had not mentioned this but I did not go back to that business because the inspection related repair they did failed and I was stopped by the State Police for a violation several days after the inspection - a rear tail light malfunction not long after the repair related to safety inspection. The tailight bulb had fallen out of it's receptacle. Fortunately my son-in-law was able to put it back in. I have a service contract with the dealer I bought my new-to-me car I will still take my car to Scotty's.

I've been going to Scott's Ivy Exxon for 12 years now, and they always do a wonderful job! I've use them for inspections, various repairs, oil changes, battery replacement, just about everything. Once they even located a dead mouse that was hidden in my dashboard, air-conditioning system, and removed all the remains, which, unfortunately, were in pieces, and cleaned it out for me. In fact, just by my brief description of what happened, they knew exactly where to look, and sure enough, there it was. A job that could not have been pleasant but they did quickly and without complaint. They are great about helping me figure out what's an immediate thing that needs to be taken care of and what just needs to be watched and dealt with down the line, so I never feel pressured into services that are truly not yet needed, as more disreputable places might do. The owner and all of the staff are incredibly nice and knowledgeable and helpful. And the fact that they will pick you up and drop you off when you leave your car there for servicing is such a plus. When you find a service station you can trust, it's a great thing!

Scott's is very helpful when you need your car inspected, tuned up, tires changed, etc. They are thorough and quick to address your needs. I most recently needed their help after running over some debris. After inspecting my car, they prepared a damage report with photos, and coordinated with my body shop to get my car repaired promptly.

This was our first experience with Scott’s Exxon other than gas. They inspected an aging vehicle that ended up needing quite a bit of work. They were wonderful. Everyone who works at Scott's Ivy Exxon is so nice, and (more importantly) knowledgeable. I wish I could say the same for the dealership where I used to have my car serviced. From now on, I'll be taking my car to Scott's. Although I had not noticed that my car was due for my annual inspection, they did, and they performed it. They are always very thorough.

Ivy Exxon’s diagnostic inspection was extremely thorough and the results were presented in a clear and understandable manner (including photos). The repairs were done quickly and there was no pressure (like what you often get from a dealer or larger auto service company) to do other maintenance.

We had major problems with my Chevy Impala while on vacation. I was able to make it to this station and filled my car with gasoline. Then, it was completely dead. The gentleman at the station was very kind. He said they were low staffed but that he would try to look at it the next day and a young man from the station gave my daughter and me a ride back to the home where we were staying. We were scheduled to go back home 2 days later. My car needed a new battery and alternator. It was repaired and ready to go the day we were supposed to be heading home. I would totally recommend this station for their tremendous service and kindness.

Our daughter is a student and lives in Charlottesville during the school year. Her catalytic converter was stolen from her car. We didn’t know the reputation of any of the shops in Charlottesville so we went with one recommended by our Hum app. Lindsay was amazing. She communicated with our insurance company and kept us in the loop at every step. Our insurance adjuster had some issues getting the estimate approved so it took almost a month to get approval. The shop was patient and courteous the entire time, never making us feel like an inconvenience. We did have to make a separate trip back to Charlottesville (we live 2 hours away) to pick up the car (our daughter was home for the summer by now) and we had moved her home on a Friday (the car was finished) and the last Insurance check had not been received by the shop so we had to go back a few days later when the check finally arrived. Unfortunately the shop didn’t feel comfortable taking a confirmation of the final payment from State Farm (the check was in the mail) which is understandable but perhaps in the future they would change their practice should the situation arise in the for someone else and they have a reputable insurance company.

All I wanted was my tires rotated. Ended up paying them over $400 and had to have my car towed away from there as it would not start after they messed with it. Told me I needed brakes but just had those looked at 3 weeks prior somewhere and was told they were fine

Donna, When you brought your car in on 3/31/22 your service request said there was vibration and or squeaking (happened once) after someone else had rotated your tires. You authorized us to inspect for this problem with a signed Pre-Service Check-in Sheet. We found tires were out of balance, but due to safety issues found during the courtesy check, we did not test drive the car. In order to provide the best service to all our clients we perform a very valuable courtesy check at no cost. This gives you an overall State of Health condition of your vehicle providing you information to make informed decisions about maintenance and repairs your car may need. This lets you decide how and when you would move forward with anything the car needs. It is a good thing we do this because we found a major fuel leak that is a severe fire hazard. If your car caught on fire, it could have been totally destroyed, and it could cause injury or death to anyone in the car. We take our client's safety seriously. That is why we informed you that the car was not safe to drive and that it would need to be repaired before being driven, either by us or towed to another repair facility. We emailed you a copy of the work performed to the point of finding the fuel leak, including estimates for inspecting the fuel leak issue, which you authorized us to inspect. When we lowered the fuel tank to inspect the fuel leak we found several leaks including, but not limited to, dry rotten rubber hoses and rusted metal lines from the fuel sending unit. Since the fuel tank was moved during inspection, the rusted fuel lines holes are now larger. You asked that we stop working on the car at this point, so we re-secured the fuel tank to the vehicle. But the dry rotten hoses could not be reattached, and the rusted fuel lines are still leaking. Again, we informed you that the car would need to be towed. You can also see the fuel leaks at the rusty lines and dry rotten hoses. Also pictured are the measurements for the brakes (front brakes are new, rear brakes at minimum for inspection). Without authorization to complete the repairs, there was no safe way for you to take the vehicle to another repair shop without towing.

Scott's does good work and is a well organized operation, but I felt like they charge a lot and push work that may not be necessary. Great place if money is no object and you want no hassle car repair. Here is my experience: I took my farm truck in for inspection and to look at a high idle problem. Passing inspection cost $850 for topped off fluids, a new tie rod end+alignment, and tightened wheel bearings. $160 of the bill was for a brake flush because the way the pedal felt 'wouldn't pass inspection'. Brakes still felt the same as they always have so I brought it back and they said they flushed them again. Pedal still feels the same, and I still received my sticker, so maybe the brake flush wasn't necessary. I polished my own headlights and replaced a home repair battery clamp instead of paying a couple more hundred dollars for them to do it. They also wanted $435 to replace a headlight they thought was broken but actually wasn't. Posted the video of that came with my inspection (they do provide a very nice report) and then my fix. Now i just have to send back these new $75 dollar headlights I ordered that I don't need ... Asking if they figured out anything with the high idle problem they said that to start to look at that it would be $185. I was a bit taken aback for going over the cost for the above work so I just said nevermind.

They are proactive about reaching out to me for scheduled maintenance, but they never try to upsell. They are honest as the day is long, and patient with a guy who doesn't know anything about cars. They know my name when I go there, and they are flexible in every way you could ask, whether with shuttle rides, early dropoffs, late pickups, and urgent jobs when they can accommodate.Best car maintenance and repair place I have ever used. Easy to recommend!

Everyone at Scott’s was extremely kind and helpful. Their work is thorough - the report I received after my vehicle’s oil was changed was impressively clear and detailed; among other inspection details, it included documentation of some irregularities discovered during the service, and the service advisor provided straightforward, helpful insight into those issues. Scott’s also provides a shuttle service to take you where you need (or want) to be while they work on your vehicle and pick you up once the service is finished, which is not only exceedingly generous, but makes the wait time efficient for customers. To top it all off, every person I encountered at Scott’s was warm and genuine - it is a place I would highly recommend and will most certainly return to in the future.

While we have only used Scott’s for inspections so far, we were fairly satisfied. Of one of the three vehicles we had inspected I did feel that they overcharged for headlamp polishing at $150. This time around they failed our inspection because we needed front brakes and rotors. Not surprising. Vehicles need maintenance. Their quote for repair however was shocking. About $1000. They blamed the outrageous price on the supply chain crisis but also said that they had the parts in stock. I called my regular mechanic who doesn’t do inspections and their quote was less than half. Needless to say I asked Scott’s of ivy to fail my vehicle so that I can get it fixed and then passed at a different station. We will not use them again.

Scott's provides a written estimate prior to work being done, and if the job comes back under the estimate, the customer benefits. Have been using their services for over a year now, and am very satisfied.

Every person at Scott’s is friendly, knowledgeable and patient. They keep track of what I’ve had done on my car and what is coming up. I’m sure my car is in better shape because of their attention to detail. They always try to make scheduling work as best they can and have helped me several times with shuttle rides so I don’t have to take time off from work. I would highly recommend Scott’s Ivy Exxon. :)

We've been going to Scott's for years! They clearly communicate car needs and priorities and they're able to talk us through the pros and cons of different choices. I love that they keep up with registration and oil timelines and call and remind us to make appointments. It takes one more thing off my plate to keep up with!

Went here for my VA state inspection. Needed a few fixes and thought their prices were a bit high, so I thought "that's fine, I can fix most of this myself." Turns out, the lights they failed me for were functioning perfectly fine! I'll chalk it up to lack of attention rather than malice. They were polite and provided a shuttle ride back home, but glad I decided not to get anything fixed here.

It physically pains me to write this review because previously I always thought so highly of Scott's and trusted them for my maintenance. Starting at 16 that was where I took my car and I was excited to move back to Charlottesville knowing I had someone I trusted. But recently I had a really poor experience that makes me question my trust of them. My 2017 Honda CRV was around 35k miles and I went in for an oil change. It was recommended that at my next service (around 40k) I was going to need a lot of fluid exchanges. I was only partially surprised because I purchased the car around 27k miles and I had not properly done a 30k service due to Covid and not driving much. I mentioned needing the fluid exchanges to a mechanic friend who looked at me like I had 5 heads and told me it was way too early and to check my manual. The CVT transmission fluid exchange is not recommended until 90k miles. So they were suggesting it over 50k miles early and it is a $600 service so not something I want to just do if it's not needed. I was shocked but wanted to give them a chance to explain. Maybe the previous owner had done something that made it need this care earlier then normal. I called and talked to Lindsey who told me there was nothing wrong with my car but they follow older standards and do the service every 30k miles and of course varies based on how much you drive the car and if you are towing etc. I would think older standards were not based on CVT engines and the service should be done based on the vehicle instead. I just drive my car around town so no reason a more frequent service for towing should apply to me. It just seems wasteful to be doing a service 3x as much as the manufacturer recommends especially when they stated multiple times there was nothing about my car leading them to think a more frequent service would be needed. I called around to 3 other shops in the area all of whom said it was far too early. All around just very disappointed.

These people must be sick. They charged me $38.00 for a tire patch. When I asked why it was so expensive they simply stated “it’s the price.” I would not go here if this price point and experience is representative of their pricing or professional attitudes otherwise

We took our 20 year old F150 in for state inspection and maintenance. They were thorough and provided information on what need to be done right away and what could be deferred. Lindsay was extremely and a very knowledgeable as the service manager. Will definitely keep you their services.

We were so happy with the service here. Scott is professional, friendly, knowledgeable and extremely proactive. We were notified regularly throughout the process of having my AC repaired and we appreciated the over communication. I love how they provide such a detailed report on your car and make recommendations on every area and estimated costs. Text message reminders are helpful and the online report was great too . They are efficient and definitely I can say this was the best service I have ever received at an auto shop. We are thrilled to have found it having recently moved here and having a not-so-great experience at another place in town.

Most appreciative of the shuttle service and the very thorough and detailed analysis. However, after gathering second and third opinions from other mechanics, I found that not all the service that Scott's claimed to be required to pass state inspection were actually required. The result for me was spending well under $1000.00 as opposed to the $2800.00 Scott's wanted.

Mr Rexrode, I called to talk with you about your concerns and left a voicemail message to see if you would call to discuss this. I am sorry you received different information about what your car needed for VA State Inspection. We take State Inspections very seriously since car safety effects everyone on the highways. A VA State Inspection should get the same result by every inspector, but as they are performed by humans either we made a mistake or the other inspector made a mistake. I definitely want to know if we made a mistake so we can correct this and not have it happen again. If the other shop made the mistake, then you may have received a good inspection sticker on a car that does not actually pass inspection. Could you please let me know which of the items that we found that fail inspection and sent you pictures of that the other inspector said were OK?

I love Scott's Ivy Exxon! They are very reliable and I go to them for my inspection every year. Recently I had a screw puncture my tire and they were able to accommodate me on short notice and patched it up in just a few minutes.

I have been trusting my car to them for many years now and am never disappointed. They give clear electronic diagnostic checkups on the car and never take advantage of me.
